North Star
Chicago, IL
all the tourists say, “lake michigan is wide as the ocean”
i know this, but i can’t help it
the thought still escapes my lips
you tell me we could sail all the way home from here but in a way, i already did
and i didn’t need a ship
i’ve been traveling for months
i'm trying to change my address
trying to make the valley proud
trying to miss our childhood less
on the best days of my life
i would always twist the knife
i could see the end was coming
we’re always running out of time
but i’ve found as my north stars drift further away
home becomes a feeling not a place
you took me home today
